Why does the U.S.A. give billions to other countries when people in the U.S. can't even afford dental care?

Many people in places like Mississippi, the Appalatian mountains of West Virginia, Arkansas, New York City, you name it, have teeth rotting out because they can't afford dental care. People go hungry in the West Virginia mountains, yet the U.S.A see countries 10,000 miles away as a priority for some reason.

The debate in now on cutting off aid to Pakistan, why are the poor U.S. tax payers supporting the military dictatorship of Pakistan in the first place? Some schools here in the U.S. have no gyms like in Compton CA. Kids eat outside because no cafeteria was built. (I saw this in CA)

I saw a single Mom who works in the health care field, get turned away from a hospital because she did not have the fee for the deductible/co-payment to her insurance. People with dental insurance and health insurance are faced with such high deductibles or co-payments for serious medical procedures that they have to choose to live with the pain and go with out the procedure that the doctor recommends.

Why does the U.S.A. give billions to other countries when people in the U.S. can't even afford dental care?
They will say it is in there best interest to support and or give financial aid to other countries. While feeding the homeless and or providing medical aid to theses other than immigrant and or on welfare are considered a waste.
Reply:Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your question, but I am 100% with you on this.

I agree with what you had to say.
Reply:One reason I have been taught is for security reasons. It's not just altruistic. It's to possibly maintain stability, protect the U.S. from attacks, etc.

It is bothersome because quite often that money doesn't end up with the people. It stays with the folks in charge. That's my understanding anyway. There is a lot of corruption everywhere. It seems to be a matter of degrees.

The U.S. government is most definitely corrupt but there are governments much worse. I do believe that there are some governments that are better but I don't have any evidence proving either way.
Reply:probably the same reason we spend billions on space exploration and cut health care for the old folks.
Reply:I'm of the take care of home philosophy myself. On a personal level you wouldn't help someone elses family, and let your family starve.
Reply:Personally I believe that the United States should have an obligation to tend to the well being of its citizens first, and the world's second. But because of corruption and all, the system is the way it is now: Run by interest groups/oil corporations/big businesses
Reply:Maybe if these folks would cancel their cell phones, cable or satellite tv, buy a used car, and rent instead of trying to buy a home....they could afford dental insurance. It's all about priorities......
Reply:People who don't help themselves don't deserve anything. The woman you spoke of in health care is making more money than most people do. I know, I've dated many women who are working in health care. One of the took care of two teens and kept up their food and living conditions and still had money left over.
Reply:The United States should try to be more like Canada. They just sit up there quietly on top of us and they mind their own damn business. I'm guessing that as the immigrant invasion from the south gets worse, more Americans might want to move north to Canada....
Reply:Many of the countries give aid to countries in other parts of the world. This is due to several different reasons.

1. to maintain security in other nations by raising their standard of living, thus making them more stable. This is something that has been done since WW2 to combat some of the causes of the Second World War. regarding the rebuilding of Europe.

2. to assist countries that we have ties with, in the case of Canada with members of the Commonwealth, formerly the British Empire.

3. Sometimes for missionary work, or church based works.

4. Cold war scenarios regarding NATO and similar organizations.

5. Sometimes it is just a good will gesture during times of need, like a volcano or tsunami.

And yes, I do believe that charity can begin at home as well. Canada and the United States have often assisted each other as good neighbours should.

Remembrance Day is November 11, we should not forget. And as a note to Lillibit, Canada does more than it's fair share around the world.
Reply:Hard Rock, I think the situation baffles a lot of us.Not only have we provided BILLIONS to other countries, forgiven their debts to us while we owe BILLIONS to other countries such as CHINA, we are spending BILLIONS on a war when home suffers. I don't think even the politicians can answer this question. Because they have their heads up their @$$es

The government tell us to take care of our families but in the same moment they take away from the US families. Just plain dumb I think.

It would be very interesting to find out what their response would be. Why don't we send this question to the congress, the senate and to the present candidates to become president.

No need to send it to BUSH because he is a sick confused man. Good luck with finding a legitimate answer to this question.
