Have you had Dental Veneers?

I am getting dental veneers next week and I am nervous about the whole procedure. If you have had it done, was it painful? What was it like? How long did it take for you to get the final veneers back? Were the temporary veneers ok or? Thanks!

Have you had Dental Veneers?
Congratulations, I bet you are going to look great. There are so many people that have had veneers done in our office and they are so glad that they did. Getting veneers is not as invasive as say a filling or a crown. The dentist only has to take off a small portion of the front of your tooth so the veneer can bond properly. The dentist will of course get you numb so you will not feel any discomfort from the drilling process. Final preps depending on the lab that your doc uses can take anywhere from two-six weeks. Patients are even blown away at how good the temp. veneers look. Now bonding the final veneers can take some time as they are very delicate and depending on how much of a perfectionist your dentist is, will greatly affect the amount of time it takes to place the perm. ones. It also depends on how many veneers you are getting. I applaud you for stepping out and doing something many people would like to do to improve their smile, but for many reasons have not. Every time I see a patient of ours walk out with that million dollar smile, it makes me want to do them too. Now don't get me wrong I have great white healthy teeth, I get compliments a lot, but still these people look so good that it makes me want to do the same. But I guess I will have to wait as you can ask anyone in the dental profession that we are the last ones to get work done, because we do it all day. Even with free dental it still is a pain to make time in the schedule for ourselves. Time is money as they say.
Reply:Having veneers done shouldn't be any more painful than having a cavity fixed. The dentist should get you nice %26amp; numb, so you shouldn't feel any of the work. The temporary veneers should look either like the teeth you had before or if they made an ideal wax-up of what your new smile would look like, then it should be very similar to that. Every dental office %26amp; dental lab is different on how long they take to make the final veneer. It can take 2 to 4 weeks for the lab to make your new smile. I always try to warn my patients that are having cosmetic work done, that we (either the dentist or you) may not be happy with the veneers the first time. Sometimes it can take a few times to get the lab to make the look we are hoping for. Is this frustrating for the patient? YES! But it is also frustrating to the dentist, because they want you to be happy, but we don't want to settle for something you are investing a lot of money in. So, be patient %26amp; eventually you'll get the look you want. Good luck
