Dental Block?

i am going to have a dental block later this week for a procedure...i have never had a cavity before so i don't know what to expect from the painkiller injections. how bad do they hurt?

Dental Block?
First you get some gel on a q-tip like thingy to numb your gums. Then they inject you with a needle. It feels like a little pinch, and sometimes it hurts, but don't stress about it. Once it takes effect you can't feel anything.
Reply:The needle is not what hurts its the numbing solution they put in, if its a lower block you will have numb cheek, tounge, lips for about 4 hours, it does not hurt really bad depending on the person, I had 3 teeth removed 3 days ago and the shots did not bug me at all, I had a ligamaject for the lower teeth, that is where only the tooth was numb not the whole side of the face.

Hope this helps be strong and get it done I am sure the pain from the cavity is much worse than the shots

They do not have to numb the whole side great dentist can do just the tooth if that is what you want, ligamaject for just the tooth no the whole face, this injection just takes a skilled dentist who is in it for the patient not the ease for themselves, trust this just had it done as stated before 3 days ago tooth was numb right away no sitting around for 10 minutes for the block to take effect, got the shot and the tooth was out 3 teeth 35 minutes and on my way home happy
Reply:What you are going to have is a nerve block by local anesthetic. The technique is used on lower teeth and takes advantage of the anatomy of the dental nerve, hence the term nerve block. The upper teeth are anestitized by local infiltration. The purpose is to block pain sensation from the tooth to the brain so that we can carry out dental proceedures such as removing decay from a tooth. The injections are next to painless, just relax your facial muscles and let the dentist do his job.

Reply:If your dentist has good technique and doesn't inject fast it should be no problem for you. Sometimes they can touch a nerve and send a shock down your tongue or jaw and other times they can touch a muscle and it may hurt to open or close for a week or so after the procedure.
