Is my post dental procedure pain an infection?

5 days ago I had a bridge holding a "fake" tooth removed from the back of my mouth. The bridge served to hold the fake tooth in place of my missing last molar which I never had. Since than I have developed a sore in the back of my mouth that is very painful, so much so that it is keeping me up at night. I feel the pain all the way through my lower bottom teeth. Could the sore be infected? My dentist prescribed Cephalexin plus Ibuprofen. I really don't like taking antibodics unless I have to. Do I need to start taking them or could the pain not be bacterial related? I have been taking ibuprofen through out the week for pain.

Is my post dental procedure pain an infection?
Your dentist prescribed antibiotics for a reason, to use them.

I suggest you contact your dentist and discuss this matter with him, if an infection has spread into your jaw then you may need more than the antibiotics he has prescribed. The infection may need to be drained and the site cleaned. The only cure for serious jaw infection is removal of the infected bone, get it checked out before it reaches that stage.
Reply:Do as you are told by the dentist.
Reply:you k now it ,,,salt water,,,sea salt
Reply:You better go back to the doctor to have him look at it. You should have been taking the medication he prescribed. They give you antibiotics to prevent infection after a proceedure. By not taking them you take a huge risk. Infections in the mouth area can become very serious if not treated quickly.

Nervousness about Dental Procedure?

I recieved news this morning that said that I needed to have six baby teeth pulled in order to get braces. I have an extreme fear of dentists and am terrified. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to be more relaxed about this%26gt;?

Nervousness about Dental Procedure?
This is the "DOG" forum, but to answer your question, I had to have 4 of my molars pulled before I got braces, too. Before you know it, you will wake up and it will be all over with.
Reply:Unless you or your dentist is a dog, I don't see much sense in this question.

FYI, it's never a good idea to have a dog for a dentist.

Nervousness about Dental Procedure?
It is only normal to be nervous about the procedure. The baby teeth come out alot easier than permanent teeth because the roots are alot shorter. If you are really scared you could always go see an oral surgeon to have them taken out because they will be able to put you to sleep to have it done. We have alot of patients do this because they don't want to know what is happening. You could ask your dentist to refer you to an oral surgeon that he prefers. You will do just fine and everything will be ok. Good Luck!
Reply:I had to get 5 teeth pulled when i got my braces a few years back , you wont feel anything as they numb your teeth before they pull it out . Just relax and be happy you will have straight teeth soon .
Reply:I understand your fear and there's not much to do prior to going but trust the dentist. Just know that after you get the novocaine you won't feel a thing. During the procedure concentrate on your breathing and listen to the music playing. Ask for laughing gas if you think you'll need it. They'll give you pain medication to take after the procedure. Whatever pain you have afterward will wear off in a couple of days or sooner and it really won't be very bad at all since these are baby teeth. Sleep a lot and take care of your mouth as the dentist recommends.
Reply:I'm right there with you! I was too scared to get braces as a teenager because I would have had to have 4 teeth pulled. I saw my sister go through it, sucking on bloody gauze pads, and I thought no way! So I waited til I was 26 and had a whole oral surgery, where they took my wisdom teeth and 2 regular teeth, and I was out and then drugged up afterwards. I also got anti-anxiety pills, Xanex, to take the night before. I now have perfectly straight teeth and am very happy. Ask if you can be really drugged up so you don't know what's happening.

How would you call the dental procedure that repairs the surface cracks on a tooth?

I remember that procedure ends up with shining UV light on the tooth.

How would you call the dental procedure that repairs the surface cracks on a tooth?
I think you might be talking about a composite resin restoration.."white filling" Dr.J
Reply:a laminate?
Reply:It sounds like you're describing a "composite resin". It's essentially a filling.... when they shine the light on it at the end it 'sets' the chemicals (kinda like makes them dry) so that it stays the way the dentist put it. Otherwise you end up with overhangs or marginal gaps and it can cause pain and look awful!
Reply:Some people have very deep developmental grooves on the biting surfaces of their teeth. They're too deep and narrow to clean properly so they get sealants done to fill in the grooves. It's pretty much a liquid composite resin material that is set with the UV light.

What should dental procedure codes D0150 (comp. oral eval) and D0210 (complete x-ray series) include? s?

I already posted here about in- network bad dentist in Illionois and have scheduled new appt with a different dentist. Called my insurance company to get a complaint form. They don't seem too concerned about paying this guy for services he did not perform and can not give me the specific definition for these codes on my EOB. They are the same codes on my EOB from last year in Indiana. Dentist in Indiana did complete exam of every tooth and full x-rays (bitewing and panoramic). Dentist in Illinois did 20 second exam of a couple of teeth (not kidding!), did not record anything and only did bitewing x-rays because he told me panoramic x-rays were a waste of time. He is billing of the exact same codes as my dentist in Indiana! What exactly should a COMPREHENSIVE oral evaluation include? What should COMPLETE x-rays include? Canceled husband's appt with the first dentist and he went to the second dentist and had the complete everything like we are used to. Should I pursue this?

What should dental procedure codes D0150 (comp. oral eval) and D0210 (complete x-ray series) include? s?
According to the CDT (current dental terminology) booklet release from the ADA...D0150 is a comprehensive oral evaluation. "This would include the evaluation and recording of the patients dental and medical history and a general health assessment" I'll be honest with you...of the two codes you gave this is the most vague. I have done exams that were comprehensive in a few minutes and some in 45 minutes (Depends on the number of problems and whether the dentist wants to go over all the problems the day of the appointment....some dentists especially if you are new will only discuss your chief concern on your first visit and discuss other problems later..I don't...but some do).

D0210 is intraoral-complete series (including bitewings). (D0330 is for a Pano). While this does not include a pano, it does include more than 2 to 4 bitewings. Most often this is approximately 18-20 radiographs with the bitewings. So it sounds like this guy could be ...well you know. I will also add a panoramic is great for diagnosing issues with the jaw....but is terrible at diagnosing decay. I would recommend them but can see why this dentist would argue to the contrary.

As for pursuing this , well if he is charging for it and not doing it then he is wrong but if the insurance companies aren't complaining then there isn't much you can do other than not recommend your friends to go there. Good Luck
Reply:If possible with all my new patients, I take a Full Mouth Series (FMS). This is 18 x-rays that will show all the teeth and get different views of them. I personally don't like panos, unless we're dealing with wisdom teeth (and usually I can get an x-ray of them with my FMS). Most insurance companies will allow a pano or FMS every 3 or 5 years. You get very detailed images of the teeth with this form of x-rays and though they are uncomfortable, they are very good for diagnosing. The Comp. exam should be where they look at all your teeth and if there is any work to be done, to discuss that with you. I hope this answers your question. Good luck!

Does a dental procedure like this exist?

Is it possible to have all of your teeth removed, then replaced with permanent, false teeth?

Does a dental procedure like this exist?
Yes here is one site i found about them

http://dentures.net/dgi-permanent-dentur...
Reply:Your welcome Hope it helped ya out Report It

Reply:Yes, you could have all of your teeth extracted and then have implants placed within the jaw that a permanent denture (in this case called an overdenture) could then be place on top of. Costly and time consuming but possible!

Hope that helps!

Reply:Yes, but you don't want to do that unless it's really impossible to salvage your natural teeth. That type of procedure is usually reserved for rich, old people.
Reply:I happened upon this procedure today while researching my crowns, and it said that the cost to do this would be $24,000-$100,000! It's about $3500 per tooth.
