My 9 yr old son will undergo surgical extraction. 10 of his baby teeth needs to be pulled out, he will be fully sedated. I've heard about risk of sedating kids for dental procedure. I am scared about it. The dentist had this 2 page paper, with things that may happen to my son during the procedure, that I had to sign. That scares me more just reading it.
He used to have silver crowns but it all came off and the dentist wants to pull all the baby teeth and put a space maintainers. My insurance doesn't cover surgical extraction. Is it advisable to have all 10 teeth to come off all at the same time? I want to know if there's any other things that can be done aside from this procedure? Is sedation really necessary?
My son will undergo a dental surgical procedure, what are the risks?
I've been fully sedated for extractions twice (one tooth each time), and I live to tell the tale. It was wonderful, actually. Much less stress than having to wait and wonder if you're numb. I'm so glad I never had to go through being awake having teeth pulled. There's risk for any procedure and I understand your worries, but I wanted to make sure you heard a success story. :)
Reply:if you waht the procedure to be done painlessly. Te worst thing that could happen is he dies. Infections or an inexperienced intern are most leading causes.
Reply:Why don't you go to Mexico with your son, to have that procedure done? It's almost free, and believe me, they are very serious profesionals.
Do not be sacre, and do not show that youy are scared to your kid. Good luck.
Reply:hell yeah sedation is necessary!
I had my wisdom teeth pulled a while back
and the first two i wasn't put under and it hurt like hell!
the next two i had pulled i asked to be put out.
they just make you sign all that stuff to cover their a**
i would not be worried about it. i'm sure this doctor has
done many procedures like this before.
Reply:I know what you are going through!!! My son was 2 years old and had every tooth fixed in his mouth. We got a lot of paper work as well about what could go wrong.. I was 6 months pregenat and thought scared the pist out of me... So I know what you are going through. My son cam out okay the only thing wrong was he sleep for 2 days and was sore for a week. but DR said that was okay... Juts make sure to let your son know that you will be there and see you he gets done... I will keep your son and your family in my prayer....The Dr knows what best on what to give him to make him sleep durning the surgey, that way he will not fell anything or wake up durning... He will be okay Good luck
Reply:my daughter was 2.5 when she had the same procedure done. when she woke up,she didn't remember anything. ur child should not sees ur worries. if this procedure is a medical necessity,it should be done then.my daughter had an infection, her front baby teeth were rotten.
dont worry, everything will be fine. trust ur doctor, if u don't get a second opinion. good luck
Reply:Yes it is very necessary. There is always a 3% risk when under going sedation. This is very minimal. I asure you he will be fine. This is the treatment he needs. It is more tramatic for you than him im sure.
