What is this dental procedure called?

One of my bottom front teeth was chipped in half a long time ago. What the dentist did was give me shots in my gum to numb the procedure, and then filled it in with some sort of 'filler' and grinded it down and smoothed it out to make it the size and shape of the old part of the tooth. I'm looking into a denatal insurance plan and I want to see how much of that they cover because it's fallen out once before and I had to get it re-done. But to find out what my co-pay will be, I need to know what its called.

Also, since we're on the subject, anyone have issues with a receeding gum line before? If so, what did the dentist do and what is that procedure called? Can your gums come back to normal?

What is this dental procedure called?
you had a composite build up. probably involved all surfaces of the teeth including the incisal edge. each tooth has 5 surfaces. for receeding gumlines, a gingival graft can be done if it is severe enough, otherwise they are left alone. your gums will not come back to normal. you did not have a root canal.
Reply:Sounds like you had a root canal. Yes, it's call gingival graft.
