dental procedure called
apicalectomy
Explanation of dental procedure called apicalectomy?
An apicoectomy is performed on a tooth that has had a pretty good looking root canal, yet continues to fail. The doctor pushes the gum out of the way, where we usually find a hole in the bone where there is some infection. The doc then amputates just the tip of the root (where there are tons of tiny little canals), then fills in the end with some kind of filling material (amalgam, IRM, MTA), puts in a stitch or 2 then your done. You should expect some pain and swelling...ice and pain meds'll help
